Once upon a time, there was a young man named Jack who wanted to impress his crush, Lily. Jack knew that Lily was a huge fan of puns, so he decided to use them to win her heart.
One day, Jack saw Lily walking down the street and decided to approach her. “Hey Lily, do you know why the math book looked so sad?” Jack asked.
“No, why?” Lily replied.
“Because it had too many problems!” Jack exclaimed, expecting Lily to laugh at his joke.
But instead, Lily just looked at him blankly and said, “I’m sorry, Jack, I don’t get it.”
Undeterred, Jack tried again. “Okay, okay, how about this one: Why did the tomato turn red?” he asked.
“I don’t know, Jack,” Lily replied.
“Because it saw the salad dressing!” Jack exclaimed, once again expecting Lily to find it hilarious.
But again, Lily just looked at him blankly and said, “Sorry, Jack, I don’t think puns are really my thing.”
Feeling defeated, Jack walked away, feeling like he had failed to impress his crush. But little did he know, Lily actually found his failed attempts at humor endearing, and she ended up asking him out on a date. From that day forward, Jack knew that sometimes the best way to impress someone is by being yourself, even if that means telling really bad puns.
